Faster Mobile Navigation

Silales district culture center struggled with outdated layouts, slow loading times, and buried event info on mobile—making it difficult for the public to explore cultural listings and news.

About Culture center

Šilalės KC serves as the cultural heart of Šilalė municipality, organizing performances, exhibitions, educational programs, and community events. Their website is the key hub for event schedules, venue info, booking details, and local cultural news.

The challenge

The previous website featured a heavy, fixed-width layout and lacked clear navigation controls. Essential pages like event calendars and booking forms were hidden under multiple menu levels. Mobile visitors often experienced delays accessing content, compounded by unoptimized images and render-blocking assets.

Moreover, the site was not accessible: missing skip links, inconsistent headings, absent alt text, and no ARIA attributes—excluding users who rely on assistive tools. This posed serious accessibility barriers for the elderly and people with disabilities.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS

Business impact

We rebuilt the Šilalės KC website using WordPress and Elementor, creating a fully responsive, mobile-optimized design. Main navigation was simplified—highlighting “Renginiai”, “Naujienos”, “Kontaktai”—so users reach event info in fewer taps.

What We Did

To ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, we added skip links, structured heading levels (H1–H3), ARIA landmarks, descriptive alt text, and keyboard navigation support. Layout enhancements improved visual contrast and readability..

Performance was optimized through lazy loading of images, image compression, CSS/JS minification, and cached content, reducing page weight significantly and accelerating load times, even on slower connections.

Finally, staff training empowered the team to use Elementor templates for event pages, eliminating developer reliance and speeding up updates across the site.
